Immigrant communities that reached inhabited areas found the land of the valleys and plains had been cultivated by local residents. The saturated soil directed them to go up the mountain. Within this challenging landscape, the construction of terraced platforms made it possible to fertilize, plant and harvest crops on this new ground. The creativity of these independent pioneers enabled them to build an alternative to the existing reality. Nowadays, dynamic social unrest and economic uncertainty have led young designers to spend more years in academic frameworks due to the limited opportunities in the outside world. Amidst a digital society in which technologies make design accessible to all, designers seek an added value to their work in the form of theoretical advancement. This process has broadened the intellectual insight of designers into the world and into their profession.
La Terrasse is a platform that unites designers and writers around one theme. A quote is selected to inspire and provoke designers, who express their interpretation of the chosen subject through products and text. At the same time, poets, critical thinkers, and design theorists offer their own reflections through writing. These two modes come together into a joint framework through exhibitions, which build new forms of cooperation between diverse contributors. The rendering of text to product and vice versa suggests a revision of the potential and deeprooted promise in the link between design and language. Alongside the exhibited products, the texts are visible and play as an active participant in the show. The theme is deconstructed and reconstructed with the use of language as a force to trigger empiricallybased materialization. The aim is to incite curiosity and interest in language as a tool for designers to communicate their visions, concepts and philosophy. The products and texts presented in the first exhibition aspire to inspire and play a role in future exhibitions of La Terrasse, with the presentation of quotes written within this platform.
